IFLR and the IPBA have been closely monitoring the development of the coronavirus in the Asia Pacific region. Following guidance from the World Health Organisation, local advice from the Hong Kong and Macao governments and health authorities, and as a result of travel restrictions in the region, we have decided to move the event to June 17 & 18, still in Macao SAR and still at the Ritz-Carlton, Macau Hotel.


The health and safety of our delegates, speakers and sponsors is the top priority for us. If there are any further developments from the health authorities which may impact the event, we will be in touch immediately to advise you of our next steps. Meanwhile, we also encourage you to monitor the situation and become familiar with suggested safety precautions: World Health Organisation, Macao government advice and Hong Kong government advice.

How to travel to Macao SAR - FAQs

Would I have to change my travel plans?

If you have already booked flights to Hong Kong SAR, there would be no need to change your travel plans. There are direct ferries from Hong Kong International Airport where you can bypass immigration and transit directly to the ferry terminal. Immigration and custom formalities are completed when you get to Macau International Airport. There is even an arrangement with participating airlines where luggage can be transferred directly to the ferry. Read on below for further details on how to travel to Macao SAR by sea, air or road.

 

Shuttle bus service is available between Macau/Taipa Ferry Terminal and Macau International Airport to Galaxy Macau, where the integrated resort for the Ritz-Carlton is located. Drop off/pick up point for Taipa Ferry Terminal is around 5-8 minutes’ walk to JW Marriott. Read more about travel to the Galaxy Macau resort here.

There are several points providing ferry services from Hong Kong SAR:

  • From Hong Kong International Airport where you can bypass the immigration and transfer directly to the Skypier. For arriving passengers only. A direct ferry transfer between Hong Kong International Airport and Macau SAR takes around 60 minutes.
  • From Hong Kong Island, ferries are operated 24 hours a day. An hour trip from Sheung Wan to Macau is operated by Turbo Jet and Cotai Jet. These are offered every 15 – 30 minutes during the day and every hour at night.
  • From Kowloon China (HK) Ferry Terminal to Macau can take up to 90 minutes via ferries from New World First Ferries. Note that these ferries leave less frequently compared to those stationed in Hong Kong Island.

Can I get a ferry directly from Hong Kong International Airport?

Yes you can. Arriving passengers through Hong Kong International Airport are able to transfer as transit passengers to Macao SAR. Immigration and customs formalities would be completed in Macao SAR. The benefit of this is that the passenger would not have to go through Hong Kong City or even go through Hong Kong SAR immigration and arrivals area.

Some important tips:

  • It is important that you plan your arrival times to coincide with the ferry departure times.
  • Allow sufficient time to get through immigration and co-ordinate with ferry times.
  • Purchase tickets prior to departing your home country
  • Some airlines participate with direct luggage transfer to the ferry.

 

 

How do I book the ferry from Hong Kong International Airport?

It is important to book your tickets ahead of time as the spaces on the ferry fill up quickly. There are two ferry companies in operation, so you would need to check your sailing schedule to determine which company to use. To book your ferry in advance use the links below:

What is the ferry schedule at Hong Kong international Airport?

The ferry leaves Hong Kong International Airport Sky Pier on three sailings a day, so it is important to check your flight times and ensure that you have sufficient time between your flight arrival and your sailing time. The same should be done for your return ferry to Hong Kong International Airport.

Macau international Airport operates 24 hours a day. There are a number of airlines with direct flights into Macau International Airport.

 

A number of airlines fly directly to Macao SAR including Air China, Thai Airways, Singapore Airlines, Korean Air, China Eastern, Philippine Airlines, EVA Air, Asiana Airlines and Hainan Airlines. There are no direct flights from the U.K. Please consult a travel agent for specific routes 

 
Do I need to go through Hong Kong City to find transportation to Macao SAR?

As arriving passengers into Hong Kong International Airport, you can avoid going into Hong Kong City to get transportation into Macao SAR. You can transfer as transit passengers to the ferry skypier terminal to Macau SAR, avoiding immigration and customs; these will be completed upon arrival at Macao SAR. Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge allows visitors to enter Macao SAR by vehicle. Private car hires, coaches and shuttle buses are readily available. You can find full travel information on all the modes of transport through the Macau Tourism Office website. Do I need a visa to visit Macau SAR? There are 76 countries that do not need visas to enter Macau SAR. IFLR encourages all delegates to check their visa requirements for Macao SAR. A visa support letter is a document stating that you wish to attend an event organised by IFLR. We are happy to provide registered attendees with a visa support letter to assist in the application process. To request a visa support letter, please forward your registration confirmation email to Umy Ng. Where applicable, we are required to secure payment before providing a visa support letter, as this is a legal document but will offer a 100% refund should your visa application be rejected.

Why are you relocating to Macao?

Macao SAR is situated on China’s southern coast, only 60km (37mi) west of Hong Kong SAR. It is easily accessible by ferry, helicopter or road from Hong Kong SAR and Hong Kong International Airport offers a direct transit to the ferry. There are visa exemptions for 76 countries and for those who have already booked, there are minimal disruptions to travel plans. There are a number of airlines with direct flights into Macau International Airport which operates 24 hours a day.

Why is the event relocating?

Due to the ongoing situation in Hong Kong SAR, and for the safety of our local and international delegates and clients, IFLR and the IPBA have taken the position to move the event to Macao SAR.
